About Skeele Insurance
Established in 1957 by my grandfather, Charles W. Skeele Sr., our company has grown to be a full service insurance agency. My father, Win, joined the business in 1972 and I followed in 1977. Brothers Shawn and Shea come on board the agency in 2000 and 2003 respectively. The agency currently serves over 6000 clients in Madison, Onondaga, Cortland and Chenango counties from offices in DeRuyter, Chittenango, Cazenovia, and Manlius.
While our client network stretches well beyond these counties, we are strongly committed to personal service without regard to account size and location. Mike Skeele , president of the Skeele Agency, was appointed to the New York State Board of Directors of the Professional Insurance Association in October, 2000.
The PIA is a national association of insurance agents which seek to uphold professional standards and foster a positive public perspective for the industry. Mike has served on a number of task forces for the PIA and brings 23 years of experience as an independent insurance agent to the Board.
Mike has a strong, positive background dealing with people as a friend, neighbor, and advocate. He has been a varsity soccer coach for the DeRuyter High School for 20 years, a Trustee of the village of DeRuyter for 16 years and a member of the DeRuyter fire department for the past two decades. He has learned and demonstrated the skills of leadership, personnel management and problem solving as an independent agent and now as a director of the PIA.
New Office in Chittenango
On December 1, 2000, the Skeele Agency opened a third office in Chittenango, NY after purchasing the Allan Granish Agency. The Skeele Agency will continue to serve the Granish Agency clients and looks forward to offering its services and expertise to people in the Chittenango area. Shawn E. Skeele was welcomed into the Skeele Agency in January 2001. He works primarily out of our Chittenango office. He brings 13 years of business ownership and management experience to our organization.
On January 6, 2003 our Chittenango location moved 149 steps south on the same side of Genesee street. We are now next to the Dollar Store and across the street from the Oneida Savings Bank.
Our new location is larger to accommodate our growth of the past two years after taking over the Allan Granish Agency and future growth. We also gained easier vehicle access and a larger parking area.
Moving day began early Saturday the 4th and with the help of a U-Haul truck Mike, Shawn, Win and Scott Skeele tackled the job in earnest. It was a mild winter day and by 4pm we had transferred the former office, brought in new furniture, stored the old furniture, and except for desks and file storage, had very little else in its proper place. On Monday morning the phones and high speed line were transferred and the computers were up and running. By the middle of the week Mike, Shawn and Tonya had it all back to normal.
Agency opens Fourth Office in Manlius
In February 2002, the agency purchased the Ernest and Cooper Insurance Agency and its building. The location is at the corner of Smith Street and Fayette Street (Rt. 92) across from the Swan Pond.
Extensive improvements were undertaken on both the interior and exterior of the structure, and completed in early November. With this dramatic face-lift and the renovations inside, designed to improve customer service and operational efficiency, the agency is sending a
message to the people of Manlius, and the thousands of vehicle occupants that pass this location every day: we are here to serve this community, to enhance it, and to grow with it. With this face lift and service to the community the Skeele Agency has won the Swan Business of the Year Award in 2003 and 2009. In 2007 we added Shayna Gersch to our Manlius Staff, she comes to us with several years of experience and is fully licensed in the insurance business.
PKB INSURANCE AGENCY
The Skeele Agency on January 1, 2004 acquired the PKB Insurance Agency that has been located in Canastota. Customers will be serviced out of the Chittenango office of the Skeele Agency.
We welcome PKB customers to the agency where we hope to gain the trust that you had with Pauline and Barry.
At the Chittenango office you will find Shawn Skeele , Tonya Lang , and Cathy Getty . Cathy, who was at PKB, has now joined the Skeele Agency
Skeele Agency has Grand Re-Opening in Cazenovia Location
In late 2008, the agency completed renovations to our 132 Albany St location. Please stop by and see the new office! Younger brother Shea is there full time now with Courtney (who joined us in 2007) and Marty (joined us 2008, he also works a couple days a week in our Manlius location). Shea and his family live in the Cazenovia School District...so you'll be seeing alot of him and his family the next several years in the Cazenovia area. Our father Win, is semi-retired now from the agency at the young age of 76, but he still comes in and helps out at our Cazenovia office a few hours a day. He can't fully leave it behind....it's forever in the blood :).
On August 1, 2009 the Skeele Agency purchased the Morcy-Morehouse Agency in New Hartford NY. This brings us up to five locations in the CNY region. The Morcy-Morehouse was and still is a family run agency with a deep history of exceptional insurance service in the New Hartford/Utica area. Bill Sr and Bill Jr are still in the office from time to time and are excited with the merger with us. Please stop in to see the exciting changes at 26 Kellogg Road New Hartford NY.
